Sacred Sound Immersion with Danny Goldberg

Sacred Sound Immersion- Santa CruzSunday, February 25th, 8:00-9:30pm

The Santa Cruz Sound Healing tribe joins together monthly to share the healing sound vibrations of Gongs, Crystal & Tibetan Singing Bowls, Didgeridoos, Native Flutes & a variety of other instruments with the community. Guests will lay down in savasana as the vibrations fill the room & bathe us in sacred sound. These sounds can help guide us into a deep meditation as the vibrations pass through our bodies, opening blockages & allowing our minds to quiet. The physiological impact of sound on the body, emotions & cognition is apparent. Bathing in these waves of sound vibrations we can experience an inner calm & deep relaxation.

Dance of the Deer Shamanism Wednesday Night Circle Lead by Brant Secunda

Join world-renowned shaman and healer Brant Secunda for a special evening of sacred celebration. Experience ancient ritual and dance your prayers into the altar of Mother Earth during this traditional shamanic ceremony.

Ancient Ritual - Sacred Dance - Drumming - Prayer - Community

This community event is an opportunity to participate in indigenous ceremony, listen to ancient song and chanting, drum and rattle together, purify your mind and find vision for your life.

The Huichol Tribe
The Huichol (Wixaritari) are a small indigenous tribe of approximately 35,000, living in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Mexico. They are considered one of the last cultures in North America to have maintained their pre-Columbian traditions unto the modern day.

Origins of the Deer Dance Ceremony
According to Huichol cosmology, the origins of this ceremony date back to the birth of the Sun. The dance is a reenactment of creation itself and honors our sacred relationship to the light. Kauyumari (The Magical Deer Spirit) is representative of our super-conscious mind and acts as an intermediary between our hearts and the spiritual world of nature.

Brant Secunda
Huichol Shaman & Healer

Brant Secunda is an internationally acclaimed shaman, healer, and teacher in the indigenous Huichol tradition of Mexico. During an intensive 12-year apprenticeship, Brant became the adopted grandson and close companion of Don Jose Matsuwa, the renowned shaman who passed away in 1990 at the age of 110. Brant founded the Dance of the Deer Foundation Center for Shamanic Studies in 1979 and leads seminars, retreats, and pilgrimages worldwide. His work has been documented on television, radio, and in articles and books throughout the world.

To help provide sustainable cultural and economic support for the Huichol tribe, Brant founded the Huichol Foundation, which continues to expand upon his more than four decades of indigenous cultural preservation projects throughout the Sierra Madre Mountains and around the globe.

Alongside other dignitaries including President Jimmy Carter, Brant cofounded the Peace University in Berlin and was also a co-founder of the Humanistic Medicine Conference with the World Health Organization. Recognized as a global thought leader and spiritual teacher, Brant has been a lecturer at the Mayo Clinic, the American Holistic Medical Association Conferences and a faculty member of the Five Branches Institute of Chinese Medicine.

Awaken to the Energy of Spring

Awaken to the Energy of Spring

Spring is in the air. We can feel our bodies wanting to move and dance; we can feel our minds starting to plan and create. Sometimes the urge to move forward with new growth can feel overwhelming...especially if we are stressed or run down.

The transition from the cocooning energies of Winter to the wild aliveness of Spring is best when taken gently. Our culture tends to push us to hit the ground running, but a more sustainable approach is to wake up slowly and pace ourselves.

Join us as we begin to open to the energies of Spring. During this workshop, we’ll start to gently awaken our energy, clear stagnation, and tenderly nurture our minds, bodies, and spirits.

We will have an opening circle, guided meditations, gentle movements, and ideas about pacing ourselves as we gently awaken to the energies of Spring. We’ll end the afternoon being in a supportive position on a yoga mat, massage table, or chair with comfortable blankets and bolsters, where you can rest your mind, body, and spirit in a quiet setting. Joyce will offer community Reiki and Marianne will provide acupressure and ear acupuncture (optional).

Gently pacing yourself can be a radical act. Treat yourself to a wonderful healing and nourishing afternoon. When we support ourselves, it is easier to support and be of service to others.

All are welcome – please share this information with anyone who may benefit! Please RSVP by emailing me at mbenforado@gmail.com

Cost: sliding scale: $20-$40 at the door (cash or check)

This educational, experiential and fun workshop will be facilitated by:

Marianne Benforado, Licensed Acupuncturist, and Joyce Leonard, Reiki Master Teacher/Practitioner, both with passions for helping people feel better in their bodies, minds, and spirits.

Satsang with Madhukar

About Madhukar

Madhukar is a German author and teacher in the Advaita tradition. He established the Yoga of Silence. He studied economics and philosophy, and worked in broadcast journalism before embarking on spiritual seeking. In the early eighties, made his way through Asia and studied with the Tantric-Buddhist Dzogchen-Master Namkhai Norbu, and experienced a spontaneous kundalini-enlightenment. In 1992, while staying in India, he met his master H.W.L. Poonja (Papaji), a disciple of the great sage Ramana Maharshi. With Papaji's blessing, for the last 30 years, Madhukar has passed on his knowledge in satsang (sat = truth, sangha = community). He emphasizes the harmony between spirituality and the sciences, such as physics, and sees that a life in awareness of the interconnection of all things is possible for every person. His teaching emphasizes self-inquiry with the question: “Who am I?”. When the perceived, limited reality of the ego is questioned, pure consciousness (the Self) can be experienced. Tapping into this deeper Self, absolute freedom, over-all love and silent happiness are at hand - bringing a lightness to the daily experience of regular life.

He will be accompanied on this tour by award winning musician and teacher Adam Bauer, and the author and yogi Christine Mason. The tour is sponsored by New Earth, a retreat center for integral spirituality on the big island of Hawaii.

A Feldenkrais® class is a guided experiential movement exploration, uniquely designed to help students learn how they move, and how they may or may not be making effective choices for accomplishing what they are intending to do. Each class is structured as a little physical riddle or movement puzzle, engaging the curiosity and challenging perceptions in a lighthearted, non-threatening container. To begin, we try out a specific action, becoming familiar with our unique way of performing that action.

ECSTATIC DANCE SANTA CRUZ Saturday, February 24th, 7:00-10:00pm

edsc.jpg

Ecstatic Dance Santa Cruz is a unique expression of a global movement; hosted and DJ'd by Hamid Martin and special guests. hamidmartin.com

Ecstatic Dance is a DJ'd, free-form dance/movement meditation experience. This can be a practice of surrendering to the moment and to our body's wisdom. It is an opportunity for allowing, feeling, and expressing all the emotional qualities and textures that make up this human experience; and for exploring what artistry moves through us/ as us in this expression.

You are invited to explore your inner landscape--alone and in community. What is it like to be in an environment that welcomes our inner chaos and un-groundedness? Also, what is it like to be firmly rooted in our own center, true to ourselves, while sharing space and interacting with others on the dance floor? And what unfolds when we carry this embodied truth and freedom beyond the dance floor, into our daily lives?

Also, please visit ecstaticdance.org/guidelines/ for more information supporting this global movement.

Cosmic Dance Monthly

S P A C E is co-created for your movement exploration, to dance with whatever is true for you, happy-sad-angry-glad, there is space enough for it all here. The dance is what we make it together, a co-mingling of hearts, a unique expression of the present.

DJ Moody Shapes is always looking for the unique musical gems that light up the dance floor with the joy of discovery and the unexpected. Inspired by his deep love for conscious movement, Moody Shapes draws from a vast collection of world and electronic music to craft soundscapes rich in booty shaking goodness, playing a lusciously eclectic mix meant to evoke somatic exploration. Mr. Shapes began his DJing journey in 2011 for Sunday morning Dance Church in Santa Cruz and still DJs with church-like reverence for the dancers' experience, co-creating a space in which people feel free to be in their full and authentic expression; to laugh and cry; to move, shimmy, shake, and of course sweat! His prayer is that all beings know such freedom.

Brynne Flidais of Moveintuit offers cosmic wisdom for soul evolution. Sense the stardust you are made from as the dancing journey is infused with galactic messages. Deepen your understanding of the planet/body connection through music and dance. In this container, we have the opportunity to strengthen the subtle messages of our inner and outer universes, allowing growth, inspiration and expanded consciousness.
http://www.moveintuit.com/free-form-dance-.html

DJ Flidais will craft the first musical wave, Moody Shapes will craft the second. Our journey will conclude with Flidais’ astrological download.

✮ Please help us hold the container of this dance ...no talking in the space, you are invited to communicate through your body and movement...
✮ Please request permission through eye contact or playful dance before making physical contact, and respect others' choice to dance alone -- hands-to-the-heart (namaste) is a good way to say "no thanks" or to end a dance...
✮ Please no chemical colognes or perfumes (for those of us with sensitivities)...
✮ Please respect others' inner journey and dance space...
✮ Please turn your cellphone to mute.
