Sit
with right heel folded alongside left hip. Raise the left knee, cross
left foot over folded right leg, and place left foot flat on floor
beside right thigh. Bring right upper arm around to the outside of
left knee and inhale, and twist spine and head to the left, looking
back over left shoulder as far as possible. (Straighten spine, neck,
and head by stretching torso upward before twisting.) Hold breath
in pose; then exhale and untwist slowly. Reverse legs and arms and
repeat. Benefits: Gives strength, flexibility, and fresh blood
supply to the spine; massages abdominal organs, increasing appetite
and digestive fire; retards aging; tones the nervous system; and strengthens
the reproductive glands. |

Sit
with right leg folded over left leg so right knee is above left
knee. Bring the feet toward the back, resting beside the hips. Raise
right arm overhead and bend the elbow so that the hand hangs down
behind back. Put left hand behind back and grasp right hand. Inhale
slowly and stretch by pulling up with right arm and down with left
arm. Hold breath in pose, keeping spine, neck, and head straight.
Exhale slowly, reversing legs and arms, and repeat on other side.
Note: Those who cannot clasp hands my hold a sock in the
upper hand and grab the other end of sock with lower hand. Benefits:
Strengthens the spine, aids in celibacy, helps remove muscular pains
in the back and shoulders, cures abdominal weakness, and alleviates
indigestion and insomnia.
